Sirli Roxana

She is Professor of Gastroenterology, corresponding member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, since 2021 Head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timișoara, Romania. She is a senior attendant in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, working in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department of the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timișoara.
She is the author and co-author of 210 original papers published in medical journals (158 of them in ISI Journals), with a Hirsch index of 35, with a total number of 4802 citations in ISI Web of Science. She is a co-author of the Romanian National Guidelines for the use of Elastography and also of the Romanian National Guidelines for the use of Contrast Enhanced Ultrasonography, as well as of the Position Paper of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology on Treatment of Hepatitis C in Romania 2017.
She is the author and co-author of 27 medical books. Among them “Hepatic Elastography Using Ultrasound Waves – Revised Edition of Volume 1”, Bentham Science Publishers 2016 – awarded with the “Daniel Danilopolu” Award of the Romanian Academy. She is one of the editors of the “WFUMB Ultrasound Book”, published by WFUMB in 2021, awarded with the “Gheorghe Badea” Award of SRUMB in 2022. She is the author and co-author of 28 chapters in medical books, author and co-author of 6 educational ultrasound CDs and DVDs.
She is Editor of several ISI medical journals: Medical Ultrasonography (IF 1.7), Journal of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases (IF-2.1), Diagnostics (IF-3.6), World Journal of Hepatology (IF-2.4).
She is an expert in general ultrasonography (level III) according to the multilevel classification of SRUMB, and President Elect (2026) of the Romanian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (SRUMB). From 2021 she is Chair of the Student Education Task Force of World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) and since 2023 a member of the Education & Professional Standards Committee of the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB). She is a member of the WFUMB COE Timișoara, also a faculty member of the Ultrasound Learning Center of UMF Timișoara (since 2001), which is also an EFSUMB Learning Center. She is a member of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (Treasurer between 2013-2015). She participated as invited speaker to multiple courses and scientific sessions in Romania and abroad, mainly in gastroenterology and ultrasound.
She was part of the Organizing Committee of the 2008 Congress of EFSUMB – EUROSON 2008, Timisoara, Romania, as well as of the 2022 Congress of WFUMB – WFUMB 2022, Timisoara Romania. In the last 5 years she was part of the Scientific committees of Annual Congresses of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Romanian Society for Ultrasound and Medicine and Biology, respectively.
Her main interest areas are abdominal ultrasound, liver elastography, portal hypertension, and chronic liver diseases.
