Staff Radiologist at the Hospital “San Martino”, Genoa, from 1981 to 1994.
Professor of Radiology at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Genoa since 1994. Chair of one of the Radiology units of the Hospital San Martino, Genoa, since the same year. Chair of the Department of Radiology of the whole hospital from January 2004 to September 2011. Since then, Chair of Emergency Radiology.
Retired on Oct 31st, 2020.

Member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (SIUMB) in the years 1987 – 1989; has been President of the same Society in the 1995-1997 period. Member of the Organizing Committe of the Congress of the Italian Society of Radiology (SIRM) held in Genoa in 1992. Member of the Board of Directors of SIRM from 1996 to 2000. Has been President of the Ultrasound Section of the same Society from 2010 to 2014. Member of the Board of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) from 2000 to 2008; has been President of the Society from 2004 to 2006. Has been chairman of the combined meeting of ESUR and SUR (Society of Uroradiology) held in Genoa in 2002. Co-chairman of the Categorical Course on Ultrasound held at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna in 2001-2002, of the “Hands-on” Workshops on Musculoskeletal US held at ECR in the following four years and Chairman of the Categorical Course in Urogenital Radiology held at ECR 2012 and 2013.
Chairman of the Working Group on Ultrasound of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) from March 2009 to March 2015.
Member of the Written Examination Committee of the European Board of Radiology (EBR) from 2011 to March 2017. Member of the Executive Council of ESR from March 2011 until 2016. Chair of the Communication and International Relations Committee of the Society from March 2011 to March 2014; Chair of the Publication Committee of the Society from March 2014 to March 2016. Member of Board of Directors of the same Society from March 2016: 2nd Vice-President from March 2016 to March 2017. 1st Vice-President until March 2018. President of ESR until March 2019. Chair of the Board of Directors until March 2020. Past President until March 2021. Honorary Member of the National Radiological Societies of: Algeria, France, Iran, Israel, Egypt, Romania, Turkey, China, Japan, of the Radiological Society of North America and of the Romanian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.
Honorary Fellow of EFSUMB. Started working in diagnostic ultrasound in 1975 and in Doppler techniques since 1984.
Has published 259 papers (as per PubMed) and a number of chapters in italian and international textbooks. Most papers deal with diagnostic imaging using ultrasound and Doppler techniques and with topics about the genito-urinary system, with special attention to renal and testicular diseases.
