Maconi Giovanni

Giovanni Maconi is Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Milan since 2006 and works at Fatebenefratelli – Luigi Sacco University Hospital where actually is the Head of Gastroenterology Unit and the Director of the School of Gastrointestinal Ultrasound endorsed by the Italian Society of Ultrasonography (SIUMB) and by International Bowel Ultrasound in IBD (IBUS).
He has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles (H-index: 53, Scopus) and, as Editor, 3 international books on the imaging of the gastrointestinal tract. He has been involved in the development of EFSUMB Guidelines on Ultrasound of the Gastrointestinal Tract, of European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO) guidelines on imaging in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Italian Guidelines for the management of diverticulitis and diverticular disease of the colon and for H.pylori infection.
He has been member of the Educational Committee (EduCom) of the ECCO (2016-2019), of the Task Force Group for bowel ultrasound of the European Federation of Societies in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) and a Co-opted member of the Publication Committee of EFSUMB (2019-2021) and Co-chair and member of the Educational Committee of the IBUS Group – International Bowel Ultrasound Group. He is also been member of Board of Directors and currently member of didactic commission of the Italian Society of Ultrasonography (SIUMB).
He is currently the Editor in Chief of European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and has been formerly the Editor in Chief of Journal of Ultrasound and the assistant Editor di Digestive and Liver Disease. He is member of the Editorial Board of international scientific journals such as Scand J Gastroenterol, Clinical Drug Investigation, Drugs, and acted as referee for over 70 international journals including The Lancet, Lancet Gastroenterol & Hepatol, Gut, Nature – Clin Pract Gastroenterol & Hepatol, Am J Gastroenterol, Alim Pharmacol &Ther, Eur Radiol, Inflamm Bowel Dis, J Crohn Colitis.
His research interests include imaging and ultrasound of the gastrointestinal tract, clinical and therapeutics of inflammatory bowel diseases, diverticular disease of the colon and H.pylori infection.
